The latest poem by John Horn - and fully illustrated!

When John read the poem to me over the telephone - I could visualise an illustration for every line.

This was exciting, but at the same time filled me with trepidation. Could I manage the necessary drawings?

(My wife Frances who was my illustrator passed away in 2020.)

One monday morning I set to work and everything just flowed.

The drawings were left for a while and one or two alterations made - but then it was time for the really hard work of making negatives and line blocks from which to build the pages.

The text - from metal type - was done first in black, and then gradually the 24 line blocks were printed in silver (a good alternative to grey - though a difficult colour to print at the best of times).

I decided to "perfect bind" the pages within a card cover in a "scorched earth" colour, with grey endpapers.

The title on the cover is letterpress printed and treated thermographically in bronze.

A big job - but I think I've achieved a good result.
