13th October

Still on the drying rack - here is my linoprint of the Barn Owl which I photographed back in July!

 Edition of eleven copies.

5th October

Just finished my first Reduction Linoprint!

The print is called "Dry Dock" and is from a photograph of an old boat which I found in Workington some years ago.

The print is in three colours and has the addition of a line block of a Dock plant, and some hand-finishing (rust etc).

A reduction print is made by first cutting away in the lino all  areas which will be white, and a print taken - in this case blue.

More lino is cut away and another print is taken (of all brown areas).

Again some cutting is done and the last (black) print taken.

At no point is there any going back. A small number of copies is therefore quite usual.

10th September

Between September 16th and October 15th there is to be an exhibition at Ilkeley Manor House, Castle Yard, Ilkeley, on the subject of TIME.

Hestan Isle Press, will have three books there; "Reprise" a poem by John Horn, "Old London Bridge" a book on the ravages of the bridge caused by fire, frost, flood and time, and the leporello version of the same title. Full details of the books are in the Online Shop.

July 26th

The Fronteer Gallery in Sheffield are to hold an Exhibition "Portal" 23rd August to 9th September. Some years ago I made a six-colour Screenprint of some Italian windows photographed by a friend Derek Ross.

My submission of the print has been accepted!

July 22nd

Just after dawn I spotted this beautiful barn Owl sitting in the pouring rain on the back of one of my garden chairs just outside the window. Rain and owls do not go together well!

I reached for my camera and took this photo (from inside the house).

The wet weather has continued and over this weekend I have cut some lino to be my latest print based on the photo.

I haven't proofed it yet, and there will be some "fine tuning" to do. Watch this space!

July 10th

After a year, my linoprint of "Willow" has finally appeared in the Online Shop!

I took this photo of an ancient willow tree in a beautiful small park on the outskirts of Blackpool over a year ago.

The tree appears to have fallen over at some point since the park was opened in 1926, and regrown.

I thought it might make a good linoprint. Some artistic licence has been taken - but I think it works.

April 10th

My linoprint of "Frog" has been accepted for the Derby Print Open.

The exhibition at Green Door Printmaking Studio, Banks Mill Studios,

71 Bridge Street, DERBY, DE1 3LB

runs from the 1st of June to the 30th June 2023

April 2nd

Just returned from "Printed Bound" at Sunny Bank Mills on the outskirts of Leeds.

The venue was full of very talented people showing their handprinted books and prints - mainly linoprints.

Hundreds of visitors made it an exciting day and lots of lovely conversations were had and  new contacts made.

February 24th 2023

"Art makes me smile" is the title of an exhibition at Shipley Underground market (Shipley near Bradford)

from March 1st to April 1st. Open everyday except Sunday.

I am thrilled that my Linoprint "Gallopers" has been accepted for this exhibition.

February 18/19 2023

The Annual Artists' Bookmarket at the Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh. Hestan Isle Press had a stall.

Around 2000 people braved the Edinburgh drizzle to attend the event on Saturday.

I expected a smaller turn-out on Sunday, but after a slow start, about the same number attended.

So many interesting and interested people! I was exhausted - but it was so worthwhile.
