More than fifty years has elapsed since the large-scale closure of many of Britain's Railway lines.
So many small branch lines simply disappeared.
One such line was the single track between Carlisle and Silloth-on-Solway.
In his childhood Peter Grant went on many day-trips to this lovely Georgian Seaside Town, which can now only be reached by bus or car.
"Day by the Sea" is an amusing but poignant peom written by Peter Grant, describing a typical day at the seaside, the sea, the sand, the donkey rides, the roundabouts, and the rain. The rain which brings the day to a premature close, when the hundreds of visitors shelter in the station waiting for the last train back home.
