Chat Noir

chat noir evocative description of a night in the famous montmartre cafe.

Written by Peter Grant and illustrated by Frances Grant "Chat Noir" is a snapshot of a night in the famous Montmartre cafe whose proprietor was Georges Sands. One night - sometime in the nineteenth century when Erik Satie is at the piano, and there is a shadow play, the figures for which were designed by Pierre Bonnard.

The booklet is letterpress printed in several colours.

John Horn the poet said of this book -

Le Chat Noir …

breathes its story into you

its soul captured in a magic pamphlet

that whispers scenes

more real than reality.

Listen to the cadence of singing images

read the living theatre of phrases

feel the hearts of characters

more alive than life.

Behold the ethereal beauty

of exquisite graphics

that dance in their stillness

like a frozen ballet.

Turn enchanted pages

that are wondrous dreams

from which you sadly awaken.

at the conclusion

of their spell binding narrative.
